Welcome to
Tulsa Area Music Archives, Inc. (TAMA)
ONLINE
This is a temporary page that we put here while we build something a
little more permanent. If you would like to request more
information on TAMA, volunteer, or make a donation, please use the
contact link below to get on our mailing list.
What is TAMA?
The Tulsa Area Music
Archives (TAMA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that exists to
collect, preserve, and archive the music and music-related memorabilia
of the region's musicians who have made significant contributions
locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
In
addition, TAMA will promote these archives for educational purposes,
via displays, publications, performances, classes, cultural events,
and recordings. We also strive to promote Tulsa area music in
general and to achieve national recognition of the region as an
important center for live and recorded music. Just as the
Oklahoma territory was comprised of a rich cross-section of diverse
cultures, TAMA's collection will embrace all musical styles.
TAMA wants to preserve Tulsa's musical past for the future.
How can I help?
As a non-profit
organization, TAMA will receive most of its collections as donations,
and we also anticipate having some collections on loan to
preserve for their owners.
We are looking for
collections of vinyl albums, audio and video tapes, CD's, posters,
photos, books, periodicals and other collectibles that relate to
musical artists with a connection to Tulsa.
We will also need
volunteers to help us catalog and restore our collection, as well as
for our various projects and daily operations. And of course,
contributions to assist us in our operating budget and to fund
acquisitions and projects are always appreciated.
We invite you to become a part of our
future. With your contributions, we can safeguard and preserve
Tulsa's musical heritage to touch generations to come. Your
donations are tax-deductible, and will help establish and maintain the
Tulsa area's musical legacy.
Details regarding sponsorships,
donations and memberships will be made available to the media and the
general public in the near future.
Upcoming Projects:

One of the ongoing
projects of TAMA will be the video documenting of significant artists
and musical groups to archive their personal stories, back-grounds and
recollections, which we believe is essential for historical
and archival preservation.
Another proposed project is the publication of the long-awaited
biography of former Tulsan and rock music legend Leon Russell,
entitled
"Longhair Music".
This book will feature hundreds of never-before seen photos of
Russell, and an extensive listing of Russell's work as a premier
session pianist in Hollywood during the '60s, direct from the L.A.
Musician's Union in Hollywood. (see our
Projects
page for sample pages).
