LONGHAIR MUSIC: THE LEON RUSSELL STORY

The definitive book on the musical career of rock music legend and former Tulsan Leon Russell.  Over 30 years of research have gone into this publication, which features Russell's rise to rock and roll fame, as well as the most in-depth look at Russell's illustrious career as an L.A. session pianist during the '60s.  That section, THE RUSSELL SESSIONS: 1961-1968, gives a complete listing of Russell's session activities direct from the archived files of The American Federation of  Musicians Union office in Hollywood, California. In addition, a DISCOGRAPHY of Russell's U.S. single and LP releases is included, as well as a section on his elaborate session credits -- an in-depth SESSIONOGRAPHY, which includes a listing of every 45, LP, TV program, motion picture soundtrack, TV commercial, etc., known to us where Russell acted as a musician, arranger, or producer. In most instances, a photo of the vinyl record or CD is also included.  And if this wasn't enough, a section of INTERVIEWS, including the December 1970 cover interview of Russell that appeared in Rolling Stone Magazine, along with others that were done specifically for this publication, are included.  And for the first time together in print, a history and catalog of releases by the three record labels Russell is most identified with: Shelter Records, Paradise Records, and most recently, Leon Russell Records. This book is a must-have for any Leon Russell fan or anyone interested in the Tulsa's musical heritage.
